AGI isn't just a toy robot dancing in pre-set patterns. Imagine it inventing its dance moves, composing its own songs, and then asking for your thoughts on its creativity. Mind-blowing, isn't it? A huge shoutout to Casey Armstrong for his informative blog post that inspired some of this content.

Now, let's hear from the experts. Elon Musk, back in 2016, anticipated we'd see AGI in 5 to 10 years. Fast forward to today, 2023, and we're right in the heart of that prediction. On the other hand, Dr. Alan D. Thompson has this fascinating countdown on lifearchitect.ai, forecasting AGI’s debut in June 2026. With such technological advancements, it makes one wonder if we're months away from AGI, rather than years.

Speaking of big names, Mark Zuckerberg envisions a brighter and more optimistic AGI future. He dreams of open source AI enhancing sectors like healthcare and education. David Shapiro, based on a Morgan Stanley report, sees AGI as a game-changer for tech giants, with possibilities of AGI being actualized within 18 months!

Demis Hassabis from DeepMind believes we're on the cusp of achieving AGI in just a few years. Sam Altman of OpenAI anticipates AGI within a 10 to 20-year frame. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, estimates 2-3 years, underscoring the rapid advancements in the field. And then there's the visionary Ray Kurzweil, predicting AI surpassing the Turing test by 2029.

So, where do I stand in this AGI timeline? I believe we might have already touched the fringes of AGI. Perhaps AGI, in its true essence, would be recognized only when it's embodied, mimicking human-like traits. An atom is mostly empty space, but empty space is mostly not empty. The reason it looks empty is because electrons and photons don't interact with the stuff that is there, quark and gluon field fluctuations.
It actually takes energy to clear out space and make a true 'empty' vacuum. This seems incredibly counter-intuitive but we can make an analogy to a permanent magnet. When at low energies, like at room temperature, there is a magnetic field around the magnet due to the alignment of all the magnetic moments of the atoms. But if you add some energy to it by heating it, the particles gain thermal energy, which above the Curie temperature makes their magnetic moments randomly oriented and hence destroying the magnetic field. So in this case energy is needed to clear out the field, just as in the quantum vacuum.

The attention mechanism is what makes Large Language Models like ChatGPT or DeepSeek talk well. But how does it work? One can see it as a mechanism that uses similarity to figure out what parts of the text to pay more or less attention to. For this, we use word embeddings.
I like to see word embeddings as words flying around in the universe, like planets and stars. In this case, the attention mechanism (the Keys, Queries, and Values matrices) define the fabric of this universe, and the laws of gravity, that resemble (yet in some ways are very different) to the laws of gravity that rule our universe.
